  • Waves Central: This is the proprietary hub for managing licenses. Unlike older plugin formats that used simple serial numbers or easily copied key files, Waves licenses are dynamically linked to a user’s account or a specific USB flash drive (iLok/Dongle).
  • V14 Update: Released in late 2022/early 2023, v14 introduced new features like Apple Silicon (M1/M2) native support, a new resizable GUI, and new plugins like Mowtown and Smack Attack.
  • The Shift in Licensing: Historically, Waves used a "Waves License Center" (WLC) which required constant online connectivity or a dongle. In recent years, they moved to a more user-friendly "Easy Activate" system, but it still requires a legitimate login. This makes "cracking" the software harder than average, as the software "phones home" to verify the license status.
