MKVmerge GUI—now part of the unified MKVToolNix GUI—is the premier open-source tool for creating, splitting, and muxing Matroska (.mkv) files. The v8.2.0 release is a historic milestone for the project, as it represents the period where developer Moritz Bunkus transitioned from the legacy "mkvmerge GUI" (mmg) layout over to the modernized, feature-rich MKVToolNix GUI.

Once the download was complete, John ran the installation file and followed the prompts to install MKVmerge GUI V8-2-0 on his computer. The installation process was smooth and straightforward, and he was up and running with the new version in no time. MKVmerge GUI—now part of the unified MKVToolNix GUI—is

  1. Go to github.com/mbunkus/mkvtoolnix/releases
  2. Scroll down or browse tags to find release-8.2.0.
  3. Under “Assets,” download the appropriate file:

    Click "Start muxing" at the bottom. Your new file will be ready almost instantly. ⚠️ Important Note on Compatibility Version 8.2.0 was released in 2015. Go to github

    Enhanced Chapter Editing:

    Introduced a new function for renumbering chapters automatically and a zero-padding feature for chapter name templates (e.g., becomes 001, 002).
