This paper examines the futanari genre—depictions of characters possessing both male and female primary sexual characteristics—within the context of Japanese manga, anime, and adult visual media. Moving beyond a simplistic categorization as pornography, this study utilizes frameworks from queer theory and gender studies to analyze futanari as a site of radical gender performativity. By deconstructing the fixed binary of male and female, the futanari archetype challenges heteronormative narrative structures and offers a complex visualization of androgyny and sexual power dynamics.
