Diagnostic Report — "failed to start cls-lolz x64.exe"
- Start Procmon, reproduce the failure, then stop capture and filter by Process Name contains "cls-lolz".
- Save the .PML and export CSV showing ACCESS DENIED, PATH NOT FOUND, or FILE NOT FOUND operations.
- Download from official modding forums only – e.g., UnknownCheats, Guided Hacking, or the mod author's GitHub.
- Create a dedicated modding folder –
C:\Modding\ with full user permissions and an antivirus exclusion.
- Keep VC++ runtimes updated – Install the latest "Visual C++ AIO" (All-In-One) package once every few months.
- Use a separate user account for modding – Create a local Windows user with admin rights, disable Defender for that session only.
- Check file signatures – Legitimate mod loaders are increasingly signed with cheap EV certificates. An unsigned EXE is not automatically malicious, but it will trigger more security prompts.
8. Perform a Clean Boot
Instead, cls-lolz x64.exe offers a dead-end message. For a technical user, this means breaking out Sysinternals tools. For a casual user, it means giving up.
- Try renaming the setup folder to something simple like
D:\Setup and running the installer from there.
- Right-click
cls-lolz x64.exe → "Properties" → "Compatibility" tab → Check "Run this program as an administrator".
