Toontrack was never a free VST; it is a legacy paid product that has since been replaced by EZmix 2 and now EZmix 3 .
- Upgrade Paths: If you owned EZmix 1, Toontrack offered discounted upgrades to EZmix 2. Those upgrade licenses still work. If you find an old boxed copy of EZmix 1 on eBay (usually for $20-$30), you can register that serial number with Toontrack. While you won't get tech support, you will legally own the license.
- Bundles: Sometimes, Toontrack runs promotions where purchasing an EZdrummer expansion or a MIDI pack includes a free copy of EZmix 2. This does not give you EZmix 1 specifically, but the newer version reads old EZmix 1 preset files.
- The Demo Trap: There is no official "free forever" demo of EZmix 1 anymore. Toontrack currently offers a fully functional 30-day trial of EZmix 2. Using that trial is infinitely safer than chasing a dead version.
