Etabs License Error 18 2021 Repack →
The Frustrating Day of a Structural Engineer
Advanced: Network-Specific Error 18 in ETABS 2021
Step 5: Clean Installation and Environment Variables
- Restart your machine: The Sentinel service may have crashed. A full restart resets it.
- Run ETABS as Administrator: Right-click the ETABS 2021 icon → Run as administrator. Licensing services require elevated privileges.
- Check if the USB Dongle is recognized: For local licenses, go to
Control Panel → Devices and Printers. Look for "Sentinel Hardware Key" or "SafeNet USB Key." If it shows an error (yellow exclamation), reinstall the driver.
- Disable VPN: If you are on a network license, disconnect VPN. VPNs often route local subnet traffic incorrectly, causing Error 18.
- Hardware Connection Failure: The Sentinel (SuperPro/UltraPro) USB security key is physically disconnected or has a damaged USB port connection.
- Corrupted or Outdated Drivers: The "Sentinel System Driver" required to read the hardware key is missing, corrupted, or outdated. ETABS 2021 requires updated drivers to recognize newer security keys.
- Device Manager Conflicts: The security key is detected as an "Unknown Device" in Windows Device Manager rather than a validated security dongle.
- Windows Update Interference: Recent Windows security updates have modified USB driver stacks or security policies, blocking the third-party driver from loading.
