- Resetting the ink absorber or other internal counters requires Service Mode and is model-specific.
- This can be done with Canon service tools or authorized service centers. Attempting unofficial service-mode resets can void warranty or cause hardware issues.

- 5B00 / 5B01 / 1700: The waste ink absorber is full. The printer is bricked until you reset it.
- 1688 (or similar): Ink has run out. (After refilling, this still appears).
- Orange light flashes 7 times: Ink absorber almost full.
- Orange light flashes 4 times: Ink empty.
